| Description |
Located in the Galisteo Basin, this property was at one time the Ranch Headquarters for the 22,000 acre Phillip McKee Ranch. It is located 20 miles south of Santa Fe and 3 miles east of the Galisteo Village which has many artisan shops, old church, historic ruins and the famous Galisteo Inn/La Mancha Restaurant. To the west are the Ortiz mountains, to the northwest are the Cerrillos Hills known for their precious metals and gems. There are also several geological and historic sites such as the volcanic croppings (known as the "hogbacks") that contain prehistoric petroglyphs as well as the colorful sedimentary rock formations at the Garden of the Gods.
On the ranch there are also Spanish ruins, Spanish dates and crosses carved in the stones. Anasazi Petroglyphs decorate the cliffs with turtles and birds and old pottery shards from hundreds of years ago.
The ranch encompasses over 1,000 acres that include both deeded and state lands. The Conservation easement for 640 acres of the land includes one of the only 9 acre "Class A" lakes in the area. There are 200 deeded acres that have development rights for 5 home sites. In addition, the ranch leases 200 acres of State Lands. Currently, the La Jara Ranch rasies goats, cattle and horses.
The land has mature cottonwoods, willows, elm and maples located in different water pockets through out. There is also a small orchard with variety of apple trees, peaches and pear trees.
Most importantly this ranch has water. There are over 100 acre feet of surface rights, 3 wells, ditch rights, a 9 acre "Class A" lake and Galisteo Creek which has water year round. There also may be an opportunity to purchase additional water rights.
